Experience Dragon Con in Downtown Atlanta
Dragon Con is upon us! It's like a holiday season in Downtown Atlanta, with plenty of fandom and entertainment for all ages. If you don't have passes to Dragon Con, here are some ways to celebrate.
AUGUST 28, 2018, CRYPT CON
Check out Oakland Cemetery before the Con if you're in town early for the Con and looking for something fun and educational. Only a few MARTA stops from the Con, Oakland is an outdoor museum showcasing the history of Atlanta. Additionally, Oakland has three gyms and 20+ Pokestops.
DRAGONCCON WELCOME PARTY - AUGUST 30
Come to Atlanta Woodruff Park for free activities, including virtual reality gaming, Atari Flashback, Nintendo NES, drones, big yard games, a photo booth, button making, drawing with 3D pens, and a DJ. Comics and graphic novels will also be available in a pop-up library. FREE and open to all.
WEEKEND FOOD TOUR OF CONVENTION HOT SPOTS
You can stroll around and take in the incredible costumes of Dragon Con attendees, and we recommend pairing the sight-seeing with dishes from Downtown hotels, restaurants, and gathering spots. In the heart of the action is Peachtree Center, offering a huge (and newly renovated) plaza, plus a seemingly endless number of spots to grab a bite at The Hub. Twenty-Two Storys will serve Mission to the Moon burgers, in addition to drink specials like the Phantom slushie. Guests at Hilton Atlanta's Southern Elements will be served the Tie Fighter, and the Atlanta Marriott Marquis' famous carpet will inspire a cookie and chocolate cake (as well as a Stranger Things-themed waffle stack). Bon appetit!
You can win gift cards to restaurants in The Hub by posting your selfie on Instagram with #peachtreecenter and #dragoncon between August 29-September 1.
AUGUST 31 - DRAGON CON PARADE
It is a tradition that Dragon Con puts on a parade that people talk about for at least a year following the event. When you step out onto Peachtree Street the morning of September 18th, you'll see more than you could ever have imagined. The event is free, and you can get a good viewing spot if you arrive early.
For a front row view of the 2019 Dragon Con parade, White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails is hosting a Dragon Con patio party + brunch buffet. There will be two alcoholic drinks and passed appetizers included in the $50 price of the Patio Party tickets. It costs $30 for those under 21. We will conclude with a special brunch for WOKC participants.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 AND SATURDAY, AUGUST 31 - TINY CON
Children's Museum of Atlanta is hosting its third annual TinyCON: a two-day celebration of fantasy, science fiction, comics, gaming, and technology. In the Science Bar upstairs, you can check out the Indian Jones Archaeology Lab. We offer Jedi Training and Costume Parades where you can build your own Lightsaber or learn to harness the force. Creating your own artwork in the Art Studio or making your own fruit smoothie in Princess Zeldas Breath of the Wild cooking class is possible with Pixels!
A WEEKEND FULL OF FUN AT THE WOODRUFF PARK FOUNTAIN
On August 29-September 1, Woodruff Park's iconic International Peace Fountain, located on the north plaza adjacent to Auburn Avenue, will be dyed purple, the official Dragon Con brand color. Locals and visitors are encouraged to use the fountain as a fun backdrop for selfies and costume photo shoots.
